Unlike hand-wrapping, stretch film machines do not tug on the load to create film tension and stretch.  Stretch film machines eliminate this potentially load-destabilizing force by pre-stretching the film in a series of rollers.  The controlled environment allows machines to apply film more efficiently than hand wrapping.  Precise control over the number of layers of film and the amount of overlap creates a more uniform quality wrap allowing usage to be reduced and fine tuned.
